cute, but not to everyone's taste (13/09/2007)
The 7373 is one of Nokia's 'L'Amour Collection' phones. It comes in various colour schemes including a pink, cream and bronze variant that won't suit all tastes.
A definite plus point is that this handset is small; just 88mm tall, 43mm wide and 23mm thick. And it is light at 104g. Its front is all screen, which immediately suggests it is a slider. But no, actually it's a swiveler. You pivot the top and bottom sections away from each other around a hinge at one end of the phone.
Do this and the screen reorients itself to be the right way up for use. We've seen swivelers before, but the format is very rare and so quite alluring.
When opened the phone grows to about 145mm tall, which makes it a nice size to hold to the ear for voice calls. The screen has another trick: when the phone is closed, if you tap a side button the built-in camera software runs and the screen switches into sideways mode so you can hold it like a small digital camera ready to shoot photos.
As far as specifications are concerned, the 7373 is a mid-range handset. Its camera shoots at resolutions up to 2-megapixels, but images are less good than those obtained from other phones with this capability. Colour reproduction is a bit off at times, the lens doesn't seem to let in a great deal of light for indoor photography and definition isn't what it could be. But for simple snaps the phone performs adequately.
There is a music player, of course, and the 10MB of internal memory is supplemented by a microSD card slot. Sadly the slot is under the battery so there is no chance of quickly swapping cards to refresh the set of tunes you are carrying: the phone has to be powered down as part of that process. There is also an FM radio - a real plus point.
The most annoying feature of all is battery life, though. From a full charge we managed to get the phone to play music for just short of three hours, which is pretty poor for a music-playing mobile these days. Stereo speakers on the handset blast music out, though the stereo effect itself is lost with speakers so close together.
As far as other specifications are concerned, this is a tri-band mobile running the S40 operating system. Applications include the usual array of calendar, voice dialling, voice recorder, stopwatch, calculator and alarm clock. Oh, and Bluetooth of course.
This phone is sorely lacking in some respects. Battery life in particular is very poor. But on the other hand it is a neat little handset that is easy to carry around.
