flat panel screens for the desktop (13/09/2000)
An LCD screen has always been regarded as one of the ultimate monitors for a desktop PC. In the past, such displays have been expensive, costing almost as much as portable computers, which themselves have LCD screens built in. This is mostly due to the development costs and low volume of production. However, things are starting to look up, and with more competition and higher volume production we've started to see prices drop.
We've collected together seven 15-inch monitors that represent a cross-section of what's available. They range in price from £600 to around £900 and, though still expensive compared to a CRT monitor of equivalent size, these do offer superb image quality. If you're spending all day in front of a machine, then an LCD display does seem a lot easier on the eyes. Many large companies now install them as standard; they produce less heat, take up far less room and are generally more environmentally friendly in the office.
Price isn't always an indicator of performance; some of the more recent introductions are aimed at the burgeoning high volume market and use the latest technology as well as being aggressively priced. Click the 'NEXT' link below to find out more.
