Verdict
15-inch LCD monitor (13/09/2000)
LG has made considerable inroads into the UK market and if previous marketing strategies are anything to go by, we should see the price of the 570LS harden up as we approach the winter period. This display doesn't have any multimedia features for sound, or act as a USB hub, but is a direct swap out for an existing CRT monitor with a simple VGA connector.
Installation is straightforward Plug-and-Play with an automatic screen calibration. For specialist colour work LG also supplies Colorific calibration software. This will enable you to set the screen up to match scanner and printer output, which is useful if you're working with artwork, and require pre-press copy.
It is the largest of our 15-inch monitors, measuring exactly 15.1-inches over the diagonal. Contrast and colour saturation started to fall when we tested the claimed 60-degree left and right wide viewing angle, and though the screen is perfectly viewable, the quality started to fall off quite rapidly in the vertical plane. This may have been as a result of room lighting, but other monitors produced better results in exactly the same situation, so perhaps some form of improved anti-glare coating would produce better results.
The LG just doesn't quite come up to expectations. It would be a great buy at under £600 but at this price it's harder to recommend.
