The PNY Verto FX5200 Ultra is very closely related to the PNY Verto FX5200, as you may have guessed from the name. The FX5200 Ultra chip has the same features as the basic FX5200 but it runs its core and memory significantly faster. The result is clear to see from our tests, as the Ultra is some 40% faster across the board than the FX5200, although it is still slower than the Radeon 9600 and FX5600.

The extra speed requires extra power, so the Nvidia design calls for a Molex power connector of the type that you see on a hard drive for this card. Nvidia uses these connectors on the FX5600 Ultra as well.

The extra power and speed result in more waste heat so PNY has extended the heatsink to cover the memory chips, as well as the GPU. Thankfully PNY has put a DVI port on this card, as well as a VGA and a TV-Out, and there is a DVI adapter in the box too, as well as a power adapter cable for that extra connector.

Other than that the contents are the same as for the FX5200, so there's an S-Video-to-coaxial adapter cable that is a reasonable length, as well as an S-Video extension cable. The software package is also the same, so you get you Elder Scrolls III Morrowind, Tribunal and TES Construction kit.

This card is fast enough to play current games properly, but you wouldn't want to enable high quality settings as the performance hit is too high.

The problem is that PNY has a list price of £130 for the FX5200 Ultra, although you can find it for about £105 easily enough. That makes it more expensive than a basic Radeon 9600 and only slightly cheaper than a Leadtek FX5600 Vivo card, and we can't recommend this graphics card at that price.
