iRacing.com has recently announced some concrete details on its up and coming online racing simulation for the PC.
It will be a hardcore simulation of motorsport, and as the developer points out, not so much a game as a training tool for real life racing, and a platform for the virtual sport of "simracing." This will be organised as a professional online sport, with a governing body, racing seasons and leagues for drivers of varying abilities.
iRacing.com certainly has a number of novel ideas, such as the inclusion of a system which rates how safe a driver is. Only good, clean drivers will progress to the higher leagues, and anyone fooling around trying to ram opponents off the tracks won't last five minutes.
The simulation is also incredibly accurate in terms of the cars, physics and tracks. Check out the comparison video on the Web site to see just how accurate the track rendering is, even down to the colour of the tarmac.
No release date is available yet, but serious racing fans can register with the site in order to be kept abreast of developments.
