The burgeoning world of the Corsair power supply has got itself a bit of a pat on the back with the announcement that the company has received 80 PLUS (the gratuitous capital letters are, apparently, quite necessary) certification across its range of PSUs.
The 80 PLUS specification demands that PSUs - be they powering a server or home computer - should always operate at an efficiency of at least 80 percent when tested at a load of 20, 50 and 100 percent. The benefit to the end product, as well as the obvious power efficiency and hopeful impact on the electricity bill, is that an efficient PSU tends to be cooler, and thus loud fans are less prevalent.
The certification covers the modular HX series, the value VX range and Corsair's power TX products.
