The Witcher, CD Projekt's highly original role-playing game which scooped an IT Reviews Recommended award, is all set to return to our monitor screens with the release of an enhanced edition in May.
CD Projekt's CEO, Michal Kicinski, explained that the idea behind this second incarnation was to "create a game devoid of all of the major criticisms levied at the original release." The Witcher has sold over 600,000 copies worldwide, and evidently the hope is a freshly streamlined version can keep clocking up these sort of impressive figures.
Our major beef with the game was its long loading times, and one of the main improvements is the reduction of these by a factor of 80 percent. Other enhancements include new character models, more polished animations and various tweaks to the interface and combat system.
Obviously this isn't likely to be enough to persuade existing owners to upgrade, but for those who missed out on The Witcher first time round, it's going to be a very tempting proposition. No retail price has been announced yet.
