The latest version of the increasingly popular - and free - open source office suite OpenOffice has been released, bringing it up to version 2.4. As the numbering scheme suggests, this isn't a huge revolution in the software, and instead is a series of incremental improvements and changes to it.
Chief among the new features is the addition of support for Microsoft Access 2007, while there have also been slight tweaks in the way PDFs are handled, in the keyboard shortcuts department, and in the presentation package Impress.
This also marks the final formal update of its ilk for OpenOffice 2.x, as work is now progressing on the release of OpenOffice 3 later in the year. The tentative release date for that is in September, and no doubt we'll be carrying a review of it around about then.
