Finally for this round-up, it's a quick trip over to the GSP range and the budget release of The Cat In The Hat. The program is one of the Living Book range of titles, and that should give you a clue to its function.

It works in one of two ways. Firstly, it can read you out Dr Seuss's classic, with animations, a few too many overt Americanisms (and cheesy American voice-overs), and some songs, in a generally entertaining way. The words of the story are highlighted as they're read out, but it's a purely passive experience this way.

Or, far better, you can opt for the version with which you can join in. This reads the story in the same way, but allows you to click on virtually anything on screen once a passage has been read. This then triggers games, activities, extra elements to the story and generally an awful lot of fun.

If we were being a little picky, we could argue that it goes on a little longer than our pint-sized test subject's attention span could cope with, but it's a simple, highly enjoyable and creative way to enjoy a smashing book.
