Verdict
music-making software (08/11/2000)
This is rather an odd looking program - the interface is fairly crude in appearance, and it doesn't function much better than it looks, mainly because it's a port from the PlayStation. Music 2000 isn't a total loss, interface-wise, as it works pretty much in the standard 'drop the samples into the tracks' manner, although the right click menu used to insert samples is cumbersomely lengthy. Music 2000 features some 99 tracks - and if you need more than that, well good luck to you!
The samples are drawn from a reasonably wide range of genres, and although the majority are techno, trance, house and drum'n'bass related, there are also sections for classic beats and rock. Their quality is variable, although the majority are pretty decent if not particularly outstanding.
A sound editor is provided so you can modify these samples, or the particularly adventurous can try creating their own material from scratch - although if you're not musically adept in any respect you'll find this quite a trying process.
Music 2000 also has quite a few unusual extras tacked on, like a video-making suite with which you can concoct a psychedelic visual accompaniment to your tune, although any video you can construct is likely to consist of flashing and pulsating colours and shapes, and that's about it. There's even a jamming mode which can be hooked up as a multiplayer 'band jam' across the Internet (although it'll sound a mess if you're tone deaf!).
The program is easy enough to use on the whole and a reasonable effort, although the interface isn't the best and some elements certainly require a musical ear to be able to make the most of them.
